A proudly South African business designing, weaving and manufacturing homeware textiles in Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape
Why we love Mungo
"At Mungo we’re humanists, not industrialists – we put people, their visions and livelihoods at the heart of what we do. And what we do is create heirloom-quality woven goods." This family run business prides itself on integrity, championing ethical manufacturing and a transparent supply chain, while maintaining the age-old craft of weaving to produce high-quality products that will be treasured. Employing more than 80 staff members, Mungo stands in opposition to the poor working conditions associated with textile manufacturing around the world.
In addition, it has created its own CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programme, MOVE. One percent of its annual turnover goes towards social upliftment projects, with a particular focus on the Plettenberg Bay area where Mungo’s mill and production process is based and the majority of its staff are from. Initiatives include work with the local primary school; collaborations with organisations involved in fighting gender-based violence; and a commitment to promoting environmental awareness, which includes avoiding single-use plastic wherever possible, recycling and managing natural resources.
